Fate

Warm chords of gravity tug me closer to you
Two negative images meld together
I'm a worn wooden puzzle missing a piece
Buried in a box of forgotten playthings

I drove between the hazard cones
But what if I had mowed them down
The other side of what could be
Isolation I'm too scared to see

You are the coin landing on its shiny side
The dingy side too bleak to ponder
A cool breeze gently changing fate
Creating a version of me that deserves you

A butterfly flaps its wings
And all that crazy jazz
Is it that simple for you and me
Just a cosmic sleight of hand

A deal of a card ripples through a life
Pocket aces and a royal flush
Stacks of chips here leave holes there
Let's put our chips together, you and me

I knelt in the shallows on the beach
But what if the waves had grown higher
I felt the other side of what has past
The longing for what I have at last
